Products
The main aim of Baylham House Rare Breeds Farm is to produce and sell breeding stock to rare breed enthusiasts but this primary activity produces secondary products such as fleeces and meat.
Wool
The only wool we have to sell is raw fleece from some of our rare breeds. This fleece is exactly as it comes off the sheep at shearing though it will have been picked over to remove much of the straw and other foreign material that the recent wearer has picked up over the course of a year.
If you are new to spinning, we can send you a sample pack of wool from the various fleeces that we have available together with some descriptive notes. The cost of the pack is £5 post free within the UK. If you would like us to send you a pack, just send us an email.
Traditionally Reared Rare Breed Meat
Though the vast majority of our young females are sold for breeding purposes there is always a surplus of males and all our unsold surplus animals are disposed of as meat which we sell privately. Throughout the year we have small quantities of lamb, pork and occasionally mutton, available as whole or half carcass, cut, wrapped and labelled to your requirements.
Our animals are reared in the old fashioned and welfare friendly way. We raise them slowly, do not use any feed additives or growth promoters and use small abattoirs and also butchers who understand quality meat, hang it carefully and prepare it properly. It will be available for you to collect (or delivered locally), prepared to your own specification and ready to put straight into your freezer.
We currently have some individual cuts of mutton available for collection from our freezer. We have half legs and half shoulders, neck fillets, diced mutton, chops and packs of minced breast.
Minced breast £4.20/Kilo
Diced mutton £6.16/Kilo
Leg and chops £8.80/Kilo
Neck fillet £12.00/Kilo
Each pack is individually weighed and priced.
As at September 2011, the price of our lamb is £3.10 / lb = £6.83 / Kg (Undressed carcass weight)
and pork is £1.95 / lb. = £4.29 / Kg (Undressed carcass weight). Sometimes we also have sausages and pork joints available
If you express an interest in our meat we will put your name on our potential customer list. When we have some meat about to become available we will ring you to see :
a. if you are still interested in some meat,
b. if you have room in your freezer and
c. to arrange collection / delivery.
Putting your name on our list does not commit you to a purchase.
