Local Facilities, Towns, Attraction and Events

The nearest small town is Needham Market two miles away.  It has a good selection of traditional shops e.g. butcher, baker, delicatessen, two small co-op supermarkets, hardware shop, two fish & chip shops, Indian restaurant, Chinese take-away, two cafés, Barclays Bank, Post Office and stationers, pharmacy, fresh fish (van on a Friday), PYO farm with a farm shop.

There are three supermarkets each within a ten minute drive of Baylham House,  Asda, Tesco's & Morrrisons. Sainsbury's is about 15 minutes away and there is a Waitrose in Bury St Edmunds (25 minutes).

Bury St Edmunds is a nice, very old town with an interesting collection of shops, a cathedral, the remains of an abbey surrounded by lovely gardens. Ipswich is closer but most of our visitors do not like it as much as Bury St Edmunds.

Of the smaller towns, Hadleigh is relatively unspoilt whereas Stowmarket has shed most of its traditional small shops and now has a wide choice of charity shops, kebab and burger outlets, and bargain stores.

In Suffolk you are spoilt for choice with pubs and restaurants just ask us when you are planning to go out and we will try and guide you towards the kind of place you are looking for.

The coast is a 40 minute drive and there are swimming pools and play centres within easy reach and lots of tourist attractions for both young and not so young.

The Annexe is stocked with an up to date selection of local attractions and event brochures.
