Dear John

Thank you for your enquiry. We don't have any breeding stock available at the moment, just a few hoggets from our 2005 lamb crop.   Next year we could supply you with lambs.

Registered, pedigree, rare breed ewes will cost you anything from £70 to £90 a head and an average quality ram will cost you £100 upwards. Once you have an idea of the breeds you are interested in, you can ask the breed societies to let you have details of breeders that might be near you. Alternatively, you can go to one of the several rare breed stock sales that are held in various parts of the country throughout the year.

The breed you choose will depend on what you intend to do with them: pets, pedigree stock for sale, wool, meat etc. If you want butchers lambs then Southdowns would be good. (We don't keep Southdowns). If you want the combination of good carcass, good fleece, early maturity and excellent mothering qualities, then Llanwenogs would be very good.
