Dear Jo

Thank you for your enquiry. Are you sure you want a pot bellied pig?

I get about one phone call every couple of months from people who have bought a pot bellied piglet and now find that it has grown too large and grumpy and they want to get rid of it.   We don't keep them, have never found them to be attractive and don't know anybody who breeds them.   We do however breed Kune Kunes which are small, gentle, extremely friendly and love human company.

I am extremely wary of people who want a "pet" pig. They do make excellent pets if kept in the correct conditions for pigs;  i.e. outside, with shelter, on grass. They should not, in my view, be kept as house pets. It is not fair to the pig to keep it as a house pet. They are herd animals and need the company of their own kind and should always be kept with at least one other pig.
Pigs will live for 10 - 12 years. Are you prepared to commit yourself to an animal, needing attention twice a day, 365 days a year, for 12 years ?

The fact that you want to take it for walks makes me wonder wether you have properly researched the matter of keeping a pig. Under current regulations you cannot walk your pig off your property without a movement licence and you cannot bring a pig onto your property unless you have an agricultural holding
or CPH number.

You must try and make these kinds of decisions with your head and not your heart.

If you are interested in keeping Kune Kunes we can advise you otherwise I suggest you look up "pot bellied pig" on Google and I'm sure you will find some helpful web sites.
