Dear William

Thank you for your enquiry. The price will depend on a number of factors:

a. The reputation of the breeder and the prizes that he has won in the
show ring.

b. The blood lines of the animals concerned.

c. The local supply and demand situation.

d. The age of the animal and its breeding record.

Having said that, the minimum you would have to pay would be about £450 rising to a maximum of £1,000 plus. The transportation distance is of course a factor that needs to be taken into account.  You can either find stock through the breed society secretary or you can go along to the annual rare breed sale held at Melton Mowbray in September ( average price over 5 Gloucester lots, 680 guineas).

Hope this is of some help. I can thoroughly recommend getting into rare breeds. The commercial pressures become secondary and the quality of the animal and the life you can provide for it become of far greater significance. The satisfaction of the work involved and the nature of what you are achieving become more important than the rewards found in the world driven by commercial requirements. You won't make a fortune but the whole purpose and the focus of your life will change for the better.
